A detail spray, also called a quick detailer is one of my favorite products. They contain super slick ingredients that allow you to clean your car between washes without the use of water. Light dust and dirt are kept away from the paint surface by the liquid so you can safely wipe down your paint.
If you have some light dust on your car the last thing you should do is wipe it down while dry. A quick detail spray is the solution to this problem.
- Enhance Gloss, Depth, & Shine
- Extends The Protection of Waxes & Sealants
- Streak-Free & Residue-Free
- Acts As A Drying Aid
- Pink Color, Strawberry Fragrance
- Use on Paint, Glass, Plastic and Wheels
It can be used on a wet or dry car. Water will bead instantly when you spray this product on your wet car because if its brilliant hydrophobic properties. Just spray on to a wet car and dry with a microfibre towel, no buffing needed.

Meguiar’s Hybrid Ceramic Detailer is the follow up to the daddy of all detail sprays. Meguiar’s Ultimate Quik Detailer was the first of its kind. It was the product that started the whole detail spray sector all other companies want to emulate.
Ease of use is one of their key features. Good quick detailers just spray on and wipe off with no residue left behind and little need for buffing.
Some detailer sprays can be used on any part of your car. Even the inside. They’re usually safe to use on glass, plastic, rubber and metal trim.
There are probably dozens of detailer sprays on the market. And choosing the right one can be a bit daunting because they all some to have slightly different uses. Some double as waterless washes and some as drying aid sprays. I will explain what I believe the differences are between these product types below.
Keep a quick detailer in your car with a microfiber towel and use it for bird poop emergencies.
Some detail sprays come highly concentrated and you need to dilute them before you use them, so don’t forget the read the instructions.
Remember that most detail sprays are only for use on light dirt and dust. They create some debate in various chat rooms around the internet. Some people believe that the use of quick detailers to clean a car, especially black cars, is not a good idea because it will cause your paint to scratch and fade over time. They say that even light dirt should be washed from your car using a safe washing method such as the two bucket method. But if you stick to only using them for light dust and dirt and you follow the instructions carefully your paint will be fully protected.
Don’t expect the shine you get from a detailer spray to last too long. They are usually not known for their durability. For durability, you will need to use a wax, sealant or coating.
If you are using a quick detailer on a dusty car, always wipe in straight lines and put very little pressure on the microfibre cloth. After your initial wipe you can buff of with a clean side of the cloth.
If your car has more than light dust on it you might need to wash it or use a waterless car wash which I talk about below.
Is it safe to use a quick detailer spray on black paint?
Black paint shows up every scratch and swirl mark more than any other color. This is because the clear coat layer reflects light when it becomes damaged. You can prevent these micro scratches and swirl marks by learning the correct washing and drying techniques. Spray details are perfectly safe to use on black cars provided you use the correct technique. The correct methods will mean your car keeps its shine for years longer.
Detailer sprays can return a just waxed look to a black car in minutes. People will think you just spent the whole day detailing your car when it only took 15 minutes.
For black cars, the best way to remove dust from a recently waxed car is to gently spray the car with water and then dry with a detailer spray / drying aid. The heavier dirt will have been removed by the water leaving only very light dirt. But that light dirt still needs to be removed without causing scratches. Spray some detailer onto a damp microfiber towel and very gently dry the car using a clean side each time. You might need to use more than one microfiber towel.
Difference between quick detailer spray and spray wax?
Waxes need to be applied to a clean surface but detailer sprays can be applied to a slightly dirty surface.

How to use a detailer spray.
A detailer spray is very easy to use. They should spray on and wipe off easily without the need for too much buffing. Here are the instructions on from Meguiar’s Ultimate Quik Detailer.
- Shake well.
- Mist Ultimate Quik Detailer onto one section of your vehicle at a time.
- Quickly spread the product with a clean Supreme Shine microfiber towel.
- Turn to a clean, dry portion of Supreme Shine microfiber towel for the final wipe
All dirt and dust is abrasive when wiped in to your paint. So I would be even more careful when I’m dusting off my car. If it’s very dusty I might use a leaf blower or car dryer first to take some dust off.
I will then examine the surface again. If I thinks it’s too dirty I will get the hose out and lightly spray water on the car to remove more dust. Water should sheet off the car because it was sealed or waxed only a few days earlier. I will then use the spray and microfiber towels to wipe down the car as outlined in this instructions.
If I’m using the quick detailer after a full wash I will do things slightly differently. I will usually use a car dryer to blow most of the water off. Then I will fully dry the car with a detailer spray and microfiber towels. I don’t always use a detailer spray after I wash by the way. But if I know the sun is coming out I like to give that extra shine.
The important thing to remember is that you should only put very light pressure on the microfiber towel. If you need to put a lot of pressure on then you WILL scratch your paint and start to introduce swirl marks which will lead to faded paint, especially on black. Please read my blog posts on how to wash a car without scratching it.
How to use a quick detailer to clean off bird poop.
There are few things more annoying to a car enthusiast who has just detailed his or her car then a gigantic bird poop landing on the bonnet. It’s as if they were waiting until you had finished before they let go. But modern tools are here to help.
It’s important to get bird poop off quickly because the acid in there can burn through your car’s clear coat and leave a permanent mark. Especially noticeable on dark or black cars.
Park in a shady spot if you can. Spray some detailer on a microfiber towel so that it gets good and damp. Spray some on to the bird droppings. Place the microfiber towel on top of the bird droppings for a few minutes to allow it to softed. Getting it soft is the key because you don’t want to scrub the nasty stuff off. This will cause scratches.
If you find that the paint seems stained after you clean off the bird poo you might need to use a polish to remove the stain. You can just apply a small amount of polish to the affected area if you don’t want to do the whole car. Be careful with polishes and compounds as they can damage paint if not used correctly. Read my blog post on compounding and polishing if you want to know more.

Chemical Guys Hybrid V7
This is a hugely popular product that adds sealant and gloss to deliver a super quick shine to any color vehicle. One of the quickest ways to get a quick result is to wash a car and dry with this product. In a few minutes you have a car that has the wow factor.
The reviews are amazing for Hybrid V7 on Amazon and it’s very popular among professionals also. It also does a good job of hiding swirls marks on older cars but the effect is only temporary. To properly remove swirls and scratches you might need to use compound and polish. Please read my blog post on the subject.
Wolfgang Instant Detail SpritzWolfgang Instant Detail Spritz is another superb product from Wolfgang. These products are very black car friendly because they leave no residue behind. They cost a little more but its worth it in my opinion because of the time it can save you. The Wolfgang Paint Sealant is quickly becoming my secret weapon for black paint. After you polish your car you can apply the sealant and then top up the shine daily or weekly with the detailer.
You can buy Wolfgang Instant Detail Spritz and Wolfgang Paint Sealant together on Amazon and get much better value for money. You will not regret your purchase.
Finding value for money.
My tip here is to buy in bulk if the option is available. These products are expensive if you use them regularly so have a look around to see if you can get a large container of your favorite product and top up your bottle.
